Council
withdraws funding for town's CCTV cameras which 'no longer
have a deterrent value' Skipton's security cameras are
set to be scrapped following a withdrawal of funding. Craven
District Council needs to save money so it has voted to end
its annual £51,500 monitoring contract with Harrogate Borough

police announce 12th new 'Neighbourhood Policing Team'
British Transport Police have announced that its third
South London-based Neighbourhood Policing Team, patroling
trains and trams in the Croydon, Sutton and Streatham area,
has gone into operation. It is the 12th such team to be

replaces all police targets with single 'public confidence'
target From this week the only national police target
set by Government is to increase public confidence by 15%. The
Home Secretary says this will help ennsure that police address
the crime and anti-social issues that matter to the public.

sign up for Dogwatch scheme to help reduce crime Over
100 dog walkers in Stevenage, Herts, signed up to help police
sniff out crime in the town at the launch of Dogwatch last
month. The scheme aims to encourage dog walkers to report

Scotland's
tough approach on knife possesion leads to growth in
convictions A tougher approach to the possesion of
knives has led to more offenders being jailed in Scotland.
More than 600 people have been prosecuted on indictment since
new guidelines were issued in June 2006; 69% were remanded in
custody. Those later jailed received an average term of just
